Musée Cluny: Medieval Art




On Wednesday, 18 June, we visited a covered market in the morning with our French professor, Pierre. That afternoon, the art class, led by professors Nicia Gelker and Rebecca Edwards toured the Medieval Cluny Museum, housed inside a former Abbey built in 1334, it sits on top of the earlier Roman ruins which included Roman baths (some of which are still visible). One of the museum's most famous holdings is its collection of Lady and the Unicorn tapestries. Each tapestry focuses on one of the senses (taste, touch, smell, sight, sound -- and one more).


One of my favorite things about this museum is the building in which it is housed. It is a piece of art in its own right.
